When the Man Comes Around/”It’s Time To Make Your STAND”

*I write these blog posts from my heart..about my work with the First Nations People, about my teachers such as Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, about my time spent with terminally ill patients, about life off the grid in northern New Mexico. Though in some ways, I write for myself, I try always to share information and experiences that may be helpful to others, that are universal.

If you would like to contribute to to the continuation of these posts, there are 3 ways: the donate button on the side of this post, my gofund me page or poohsstore where we offer sacred and visionary art for these times of transition and transcendence

I don’t usually put up Bible verses however I am interested in the prophecies of the world religions and how they seem to be coming together in these very times. “When the Man Comes” was the last song written by Johnny Cash before he died and it is based on Revelations. The Stand written by Stephen King is also based on Revelations.

Hear the trumpets hear the pipers

One hundred million angels singin’

Multitudes are marchin’ to the big kettledrums

Voices callin’, voices cryin’

Some are born and some are dyin’

It’s alpha and omega’s kingdom come

~Johnny Cash/When the Man Comes Around

It’s time now to give over your will to the will of God. It’s time, to make your STAND.”

~Mother Abigail Freemantle/THE STAND

Yesterday I met with some friends in Taos.mary-and-scottI had originally met Mary and Scott Childers a few years ago at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs where I had gone to recover from some things that were happening in my life.early-morn-ojo

I had resolved not to talk to anybody while I was there…I wanted it to be like a retreat. But when I looked out the window in my room, I saw a couple in the parking lot, sitting next to where my SUV was parked-they had a very large motor cycle and they were each drinking a beer.

Biker people I thought in my judgemental way and yet for some reason [divine manipulation Elisabeth Kubler-Ross would call it] I felt that I should break my silence and go out and talk to them.

It turned out that they were really wonderful people-friendly and easy to talk to.alpine-alleyThey own Alpine Alley a much loved coffee shop in Mountainair, New Mexico. As we were talking, I happened to mention that I was working on a documentary on prison reform.

They didn’t say anything then but later they came to me and told me that their older son was facing prison time for drug related offenses.

Later when we started choosing the people to interview for The Light in the Shadow, I asked Mary if she wanted to be a part of it. mary-childers_1She did and so I interviewed her in April 2015. Her interview is the last one in the preview posted below.

We stayed in touch, then lost touch and then a month ago I heard from a friend that their 32 year old son, Eric had died suddenly and unexpectedly. I had met Eric twice briefly-he was so happy and full of life and I was beyond shocked. I got back in touch with them immediately.eric

Mary and Scott told me they were coming to Taos for a weekend so I drove over to meet them. We talked about a lot of things: how Eric’s death had happened, the tremendous support they had been getting from friends and family, their struggle to deal with the pain and suffering as the teacher [it is]. They went on to tell me that Eric had completed a lot of things in the last 6 months of his life and one of his main goals had been to get rid of a lot of his possessions. He had planned to move back to Oregon to be near his 2 boys but in doing so, he intended to live very simply–back to basics. Mary and Scott told me they had all of Eric’s belongings in one small box in the garage.

They talked then about how they had also been feeling the call -to live more simply. When we had first started talking Mary had asked me what I had been doing. “Trying to survive.” I said. She said that that didn’t sound like me and I told her that we-Jody and me- had been put in a position where we were living on almost no money, eating a lot of beans and tortillas, relying more on the vegetables and herbs in the greenhouse..greenhous april 16 chard.jpg…and as always the sun for electricity and wood from the land for heat. A year or so ago the on demand hot water heater had gone out and I wasn’t able to get it fixed for several months.I had felt very discouraged-have to have hot water-but we heated the water on the stove for baths and it hadn’t been that bad.

I told Scott and Mary that it had been hard lately but I thought maybe we were being prepared for something that’s coming.

“Prepare for the hard times that are coming. Don’t waste time in trying to fight a system that will not change. Rebuild yourself, your families and your nation, with your way of life the Creator has given you.

Stop thinking negatively and fill your mind with positive thoughts. Depend on the land again, for all that you will need to survive. Prepare for the times when people will come looking for help. Prepare to receive the land with your leadership as the true stewards of the land.”

~Elder Dave Courchene, Anishnabe Nation, Eagle Clan ~ from a presentation at Treaties 1-11 Gathering Brandon,Manitoba – August 30, 2016

dave-talking-june-3I had recently called my friend, Dave Courchene, an Anishnabe Elder and founder of The Turtle Lodge in Manitoba. I called him because things were so hard and I wondered if he would do a ceremony for me. Dave told me “You’re in the right place and you need to stay there. We’re telling people now to live as simply as possible. We don’t know what’s coming-a natural disaster, economic collapse, terrorist attack, and we don’t know exactly when but as the Old People say ‘The Earth is about to change’.”

I felt better after talking to Dave and I felt somehow I have to hang in there – I can definitely feel something coming. Mary and Scott can too..they feel this is the time spoken of in Revelations.

I think many people can feel this whatever it is that’s coming–many feel it as fear, as an uneasiness and I think the majority of people use every possible means/distraction to avoid thinking about it and there are plenty of distractions: sports, the ‘news’, TV, Facebook….

Here we’re not living in fear but rather working to become more and more self sufficient. A couple weeks ago, my internet was down for 3 days and I found out how addicted  I am and how dependent. What if it all goes: the grid, cell phones, internet..what would life be like? Every time there’s a big storm which happens more and more often, there are thousands of people  left with no power and I wonder why people, at least some of them don’t turn to solar.. It’s such a simple and beautiful way to live and it’s easily accessible to many people.

Like the Old People say: “The Earth is about to Change.” “It’s time to make your STAND.” At least that’s how I understand these present times.

Below are the Johnny Cash song, When the Man Comes and the trailer for The Stand – they are both somewhat ominous but also true I believe. Also the trailer for our documentary, THE 8TH FIRE  which is a little bit more positive and the preview of our film on prison reform, The Light in the Shadow in which Mary Childers appears as I mentioned above.
